Questions to ask your potential Wedding Photographer

No idea where to start? Feel like you're missing something? Here's a list of questions you can ask your potential photographer! Of course do not limit yourself to these questions, the more informed you and the photographer are the better.

First ask if your date is available, if the photographer is already committed to an event that day there is no sense taking time out of yours to put thought into a message that will ultimately go no where.  So once it's established they are available here are some other ideas:

Will you be the one personally shooting the wedding?
Is photography your main focus?
What areas of photography do you specialize in?
How would you describe your style?
Do you require a contract?
Are you insured?
Can we meet before the wedding?
What is your preferred method of contact?
How many weddings have you done in the past?
How many weddings do you commit to in a year?
How long after the wedding will I see images?
How long after the wedding until all the images are delivered?
How many images can I expect to receive?
How are the images delivered?
How many hours are in my package , what is all included?
Can I customize a package?
What happens if the wedding goes longer than planned?
Are engagement sessions included?
Do you have assistants?
Do you have back up equipment?
Can I provide a list of specific shots?
Do you require a deposit and how much? timing for other payments?
What is the plan/policy if problems were to arise on the event day or after?
Do you have any travel or other additional expenses?
Who has rights to the images and what are they in terms of online publication?
What are your expectations of us (the couple)?

Overwhelmed yet? Don't be, just take your time and do your homework. Any suggestions for other questions to ask? Feel free to leave them in the comments!

Photoshoot Locations Around Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario

William Scott Park, New Hamburg One of the first questions you may ask your photographer is: "What locations do you suggest?" I personally LOVE when clients show me new spots but I like to offer a plethora of suggestions when asked. Even if I'm not personally working with you this list can still help you get an idea of some locations! This is by no means a list of all the locations in the KW area, I see potential photo shoots every time I'm out and about it seems! (Hello, side of back country road sessions?) Fellow photographers  please feel free to comment links to your locations/work in the comment section! Anyone can use this as a resource for shoot locations. How to find the locations? Clicking on location will open new window! ALSO: Here's a quick link to my KW PHOTOSHOOT LOCATION Pinterest Board with even more locations!! Victoria Park, Kitchener  Victoria Park -Kitchener Seems an obvious one but Victoria Park really has it all, bridges, gar

Choosing a Wedding Photographer

Floral Design by Fresh Look Design Inc. It can be overwhelming when you begin the search for a wedding photographer, when I see people looking for recommendations on social media there can be upwards of 50 comments in just a mere hour! How do you ever decide when there are SO many options? Set a budget.  First things first, set a budget. How important is it to you, to have photographic memories captured of your special day? You may be surprised at how much of an expense it actually is ( it's a lot of work ). It can be upwards of $3500  plus taxes for professional wedding photography. Yes "cheap" or "inexpensive" wedding photography does exist, and yes you can find students and those who are building their portfolio. You can pretty much find a photographer at any price level you choose, there are that many out there offering services.  I believe in the phrase "you get what you pay for", and as such I would not expect the same quality of s

Family Sessions- What to Expect

Welcome! This is going to be my first blog so please, excuse how awful it is. I thought I would start by giving you an idea of what you can expect during a typical family session with me! On location family sessions are meant to be casual while still capturing those posed shots. I like to take candid shots of family enjoying their time together and I have a bad habit of taking too many pictures! I've been known to say "just one more" a time or two... A full family session will typically last at least an hour depending on weather and willingness of the subjects. I also have over 5 years experience in the early childhood education field and that definitely helps when it comes to the littles! Full Sessions will include more than one "setting", we'll walk around a park or area as opposed to staying in one spot during a mini session.  Speaking of weather, don't let overcast/drizzly days scare you! They can produce beautiful images. When sched
